North Korea has set the date to begin shutting down a major nuclear test site as it continues to pursue improved relations with the world.

"The Nuclear Weapon Institute and other concerned institutions are taking technical measures for dismantling the northern nuclear test ground of the DPRK in order to ensure transparency of discontinuance of the nuclear test", said the announcement.

North Korea plans to dismantle its nuclear testing facility, as it pledged, between May 23 and 25 based on the weather, its central news agency announced on Saturday.

South Korea had no immediate response to the statement.
