BREAKING Serious injuries reported after plane crash in Offaly

It is understood that the Air Accident Investigation Unit used digging machinery in an attempt to remove the aircraft from the bog because the impact of the crash had driven it into the ground.

According to the newspaper, before the accident the aircraft made a successful drop 16 paratroopers. However, witnesses then saw the aircraft crash shortly afterwards.

Emergency services are attending the scene.

The crashed plane had been partially submerged in water on the bog and required an exhaustive recovery mission.

A man and a 7 year old boy have been critically injured following a light plane crash near Edenderry this Sunday afternoon, May 13.

16 parachutists had made their jumps moments earlier before the plane crashed on bogland with the man and boy on board.

He said: "People would be over there all the time, especially at weekends in the summer, a lot of people parachuting and a lot of fundraising jumpers".

"These flights have been happening for the last 20 years and this is the first time I've heard of a plane going down".

The incident happened just before 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon.

Their deaths have now been confirmed.

"Then I heard a awful roaring and it went straight down".
