Pakistan rejects Nawaz Sharif's comments on 26/11

PML-N petitions SC against NAB chief

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif should immediately step down following the statement of Nawaz Sharif, PTI chairman demanded, adding that PM should clarify Nawaz Sharif's statement in the National Assembly.

The National Security Council (NSC), in a special meeting on Monday called by the military, rejected Sharif's comments in an interview with Pakistan's Dawn newspaper as "incorrect and misleading", the prime minister's office said in a statement. The attack killed almost 166 people, including foreign nationals after 10 Pakistani gunmen spent three days spraying bullets and throwing grenades around city landmarks. He had questioned why his country had not been able to complete the trial in the case yet.

Its mastermind, Hafiz Saeed, has been roaming freely in Pakistan. "I want to ask our opponents and the Congress whose senior party leaders had launched a book which claimed that 26/11 attack was an RSS conspiracy. President (Vladimir) Putin has said it. President Xi (Jinping) has said it", Mr Sharif said. "Instructions should be given to register a treason case against Nawaz Sharif", the petition states, the report in the Pakistani media said.

The statement shared by Nawaz Sharif's daughter, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, on Twitter read, "PML-N would like to set the record straight on the interview of PML-N Quaid carried yesterday by DAWN".

The younger Sharif said "the state of Pakistan and all its institutions stand together in the global fight against terrorism".

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday termed former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif's public acknowledgement that militant organisations were active in his country as a serious disclosure. He indicated that his country should look into why its narrative that it had been fighting terrorism had not been accepted by the worldwide community "despite sacrifices".

"We need to understand the ongoing dynamics and should support our armed forces shoulder to shoulder", he added stressing that an worldwide conspiracy to isolate Pakistan is being hatched.

He said that no one forced him to talk to the media and it was his own decision to give the explanatory statement. "It understands the language of gun only and we will fight till India doesn't vacate Kashmir", Zargar said. Afghanistan's narrative is being accepted, but ours is not.

Sharif, who was ousted last July by the country's top court for hiding a foreign work visa, a year ago also irked the army over suggesting the military's weakness in the face of militant groups.

Pakistan has always been accused of playing a "double game" by supporting militant groups for its own strategic ends, particularly in India-controlled Kashmir and Afghanistan.

So long as the army holds the trumps in Pakistan it is utterly futile to engage with any administration in that country.
