White House Lawyer Joins Secret Briefings About FBI Informant

Tom Williams CQ Roll Call Newscom

'Clapper has now admitted that there was Spying in my campaign. "What goes around, comes around!"

"Look how things have turned around on the Criminal Deep State". The informant is believed to be Stefan A Halper, a professor emeritus from the University of Cambridge. Trump and his allies have sought to cast that as inappropriate political spying.

Later Tuesday, Trump tweeted, "The spy was there early in the campaign and yet never reported Collusion with Russian Federation, because there was no Collusion".

He caused shock waves earlier this month when he said on Fox News the president reimbursed his private attorney Michael Cohen for the $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels.

"Since becoming a private citizen, knowing what I know they did, the variety of means Russians used, millions and millions of voters they got to.to me it stretches logic not to think they didn't help swing the election. the full magnitude of what they did, in my mind, in my opinion, they did affect the election".

But now, Trump's tweet has forced the term "Spygate" to be redefined. That was false. He said that there [were] political spies embedded in his campaign.

He let the world know his displeasure via Twitter on Sunday: "I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes - and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration!"

After a series of evolving pronouncements and significant posturing, lawmakers from both parties attended a pair of briefings on Thursday about the FBI's use of an informant during its investigation into connections between Russian actors and members of the Trump campaign. "They acknowledged to us orally that they understand that they can't violate the Justice Department rules".

But when asked how often the others speak to the president, he said: 'Talking, correspondence? "You have to have transparency".

"They are not", Ingraham said.

Christopher A. Wray, the Federal Bureau of Investigation director; Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general and Dan Coats, the director of national intelligence were scheduled to brief Nunes first. "They're the same briefing", he said. The firing is now under investigation by the Justice Department's special counsel as possible obstruction of justice.

Former FBI Director James Comey is defending the FBI's use of a secret informant in the Russian Federation investigation, saying the practice is "tightly regulated and essential to protecting the country". They brought documents to Capitol Hill but did not share them, and made several remarks about the importance of protecting intelligence sources and methods. "How will Republicans explain this to their grandchildren?" tweeted Comey, a former Republican who now identifies as an independent.

The Department of Justice said it would expand the probe already under way by the agency's inspector general to examine the FBI's involvement in the Trump campaign.

West said that by calling for an investigation of the FBI, Trump is endangering democratic norms and "setting the precedent that chief executives can investigate the investigators".

A spokeswoman for the Department of Justice declined comment.

"No, no. We're not undercutting", Trump said. "We're cleaning everything up".

"What I'm doing is a service to this country".

The Russia probe apparently remained on Trump's mind a couple of hours after his initial tweets Wednesday.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., he fired off a two-word message in all capital letters: "WITCH HUNT!"
