Trump throws G-7 into disarray with tweets after he leaves

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has closed the G7 summit by stating he "won't be pushed around" by Donald Trump on trade.

Before jumping on Air Force One to fly to Canada, which is hosting the summit in La Malbaie north of Quebec City, Trump called for a return to the body's pre-2014 "G8" formula.

Trump left the G7 summit in Canada early, then wrote on Twitter that Trudeau's remarks, including that his country would not be pushed around, "were very dishonest and weak".

"Very dishonest & weak", Trump said, adding that recently imposed U.S. tariffs on imports of Canadian steel and aluminium were in response to similar measures imposed on American dairy products by Canada.

"This agreement.is good news and it marks a collective desire to stabilise things", Mr Macron said.

"They do so much more business with us than we do with them. the numbers are so astronomically against them. we win that war a thousand times out of a thousand".

Trump headed into the Group of Seven talks in Canada having picked fights with some of his biggest allies, who vowed to confront him about new United States tariffs on steel and aluminium. "I don't blame other leaders for that, I blame our past leaders".

Trump added that the meeting was a "one-time shot" but he thought it would "work out very well".

"We have to have deals that are fair", Trump said.

He told the G7 leaders during the summit that the United States wanted a quick end to trade practices that he said have led to an exodus of American companies and jobs to other countries. "Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!"

Asked whether she was concerned the President could pull out of the trip if a trade war with the European Union escalates, Mrs May said Mr Trump had said was looking forward to the trip. All three trading partners have threatened to retaliate with their own levies against US imports.

The Prime Minister said she had used the event as a chance to register the UK's "deep disappointment" with President Trump's plans.

"Let's say Canada, where we have tremendous tariffs".

Trump cited progress on reaching an agreement on the North American Free Trade Agreement with Canada and Mexico, saying the final outcome would lead either to an improved trade deal or separate pacts with the two US neighbors.

Trump also forced a change in the official schedule with his decision to leave the summit early to travel to Singapore, where he is scheduled to hold a historic meeting on Tuesday with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Despite the tension and determination of European leaders President Emmanuel Macron of France and Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany to push back on Trump's assault on the world trade system, when Trump left it was thought a compromise had been reached.

Trump accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of making "false statements", and threatened new automobile tariffs in a series of tweets he posted after leaving the talks in Charlevoix, Quebec.

"We strive to reduce tariff barriers, non-tariff barriers and subsidies", the statement said. "Or we're going to make a deal directly with Canada, directly with Mexico", Trump said.
