The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Thursday that China would be willing to help the United States uncover the causes of the illness.

AP recently reported the US State Department has determined the incidents in Cuba were "specific attacks" on diplomats is trying to cut staffing numbers by more than 50%.

The case revived fears that a U.S. rival has developed some kind of acoustic or microwave device after similar symptoms were reported among American diplomats and their families in Cuba in 2016.

The employee first reported symptoms associated with concussions and "minor traumatic brain injury", which include cognitive issues, headaches, hearing loss, insomnia and tinnitus, on May 16.

Lenzi was so upset over the State Department's one-month delay in informing other consulate staffers about the March incident that he sent an email to the entire staff, decrying what he described as misleading information from officials in an interview with the New York Times.

While US authorities have only confirmed that one staffer has been affected so far, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said on Wednesday they had commissioned optional health screenings for all Guangzhou personnel.

A USA medical team has been screening more personnel and their family members who work in Guangzhou this week in order to determine who may have been affected.

The nationwide alert advises us personnel to contact a doctor if they experience unusual or unexplained physical symptoms.

"The State Department received medical confirmation that a us government employee in China suffered a medical incident consistent with what other USA government personnel experienced in Havana, Cuba", it said in an emailed statement.

A U.S. official, who wasn't authorised to discuss the situation publicly and requested anonymity, said that the evacuated American government workers were being brought for testing to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where doctors have been treating and studying patients who had been evacuated from the United States embassy in Havana.

He said he heard what sounded like "marbles rolling around a metal funnel" in his apartment complex, where other US state employees also called home, according to the newspaper.

More U.S. citizens have been evacuated from a U.S. consulate in Guangzhou, China, after suffering what appears to be the same unusual, sound-related illness that afflicted consulate workers in Cuba.

The Penn team said that the patients from Cuba experienced persistent disability, though rehabilitation therapy customised for them seemed to help.

Canada in April additionally ordered households of diplomatic employees in Cuba to return residence after mysterious well being signs had been detected in 10 Canadians stationed on the island.

Nauert said the "medical screenings are ongoing".

"The Health Incidents Response Task Force serves as the coordinating body for Department and interagency activities, including identification and treatment of affected personnel and family members, investigation and risk mitigation, messaging, and diplomatic outreach", Pompeo's statement debuting the task force read. It is also the only U.S. diplomatic installation in China authorised to process immigrant visas and handle adoptions.

People working in The Canton Place complex, a few kilometers (miles) from the consulate, said Thursday they were just hearing about the incidents, reflecting a lack of coverage in China's entirely state-controlled media.

"Exhausting to get my head round the way it works", he mentioned.

"It's very unusual. But I don't feel that there's something to be very afraid of because it's probably a very special case", Chen said. "But I don't feel that there's something to be very afraid of because it's probably a very special case", Chen said.
