Adam Burniston's Forecast | Surge of summer heat moving in

Strong Severe Storms Sunday

The Kansas City metro area is in for a sweltering weekend with temperatures and heat indexes pushing toward 100 degrees.

Fortunately, after we deal with another 90 degree day on Monday, the temperature trend is set to decrease through the middle and latter part of the week.

An Excessive Heat Warning means a prolonged period of dangerously-hot temperatures are expected. This may cause a slight chance of a shower or storm. While the morning is starting off pleasant, southerly winds through the day will bring a return to the heat and humidity.

Summer gets ahead of itself, as a heat wave brews in the D.C. area a few days before spring officially says so long.

If it feels like it's been really hot, you're not imagining things. A risky combination of heat and humidity will be in the region Fridayafternoon and continue at least through early Sundayevening. That difference will be felt most at night when city temperatures remain in the 80s - up to 10 degrees warmer than the suburbs. Highs: Mid-to-upper 90s.

Forecasters said Sunday's outlook varies just a bit - sunny skies with a high in the mid-90s.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, very hot and humid.

The Chambersburg, Gettysburg, York, Lancaster, Lebanon, Carlisle, Harrisburg, Lewistown and Newport areas are all expected to reach a heat index level of at least 100 on Monday.

The area of MI under the advisory stretches from near Traverse City all the way south to the IN and OH borders. Humidity values will increase even more on Sunday.
