U.S. homeland security: No apology for immigrant separations

"As everyone who has looked at this agrees, this was done by the president, not Democrats".

Clinton, former first lady, secretary of state and Democratic presidential nominee, said at an awards lunch for the Women's Forum of NY that the separations are not required by law and are not grounded in any religion. "This is something that transcends politics". They can not take their children to court. It is resulting in prosecution of ALL individuals who are caught illegally crossing the border, and consequently whenever a parent or adult is accompanied by a child, they are separated.

The President's entrenchment amid a loud uproar comes amid a developing humanitarian - and political - crisis on the United States' border with Mexico, where at least 2,000 children have been separated from their parents as a result of the administration's policy. For those who come with families, their children are removed from them.

"It is not just that America is a nation of immigrants - it is that since our founding we have embraced certain core values".

Attorneys at the hearings said the immigrants had brought two dozen boys and girls with them to the US, and the judge replied that he didn't know what would happen to their children.

Once taken from their parents, the children are handed over to the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) of the Department of Health and Human Services. Republican Senator Susan Collins of ME said on Sunday the number "may well be higher".

US border authorities are executing the Trump administration's zero tolerance policy towards undocumented immigrants.

Mr Sessions said: "Fundamentally, we are enforcing the law".

But Trump blamed Democrats for not taking action on immigration.

"While he thinks it's something that works well for that 35 per cent that still adore him, it doesn't work well for their party in November", he said in an interview.

"I want to go with my aunt", Alison told an agent on the tape.

An audio recording that appears to capture the heartbreaking voices of Spanish-speaking children crying out for their parents at a USA immigration facility has stoked the outrage over the Trump administration's policy of separating immigrant children from their parents. "We need borders, we need security, we need safety", Mr. Trump said. "It is immoral. And it breaks my heart", Mrs.

California Senator Dianne Feinstein has the support of 43 senators, all Democrats, for a bill in her chamber. "These children did not make the choice to cross the border and shouldn't be punished for it", she said.

"My assumption is, in order to fix this problem, you can't fix all the problems", McConnell said, noting the difficulty of passing a more comprehensive immigration plan with the family separation solution added to the bill.

Later, he declared during remarks at a hotel that he had no choice but to remove children from their parents at the border.

In fact, no one is forcing the government to prosecute immigrants who are apprehended.

House GOP leaders are revising their legislation amid a public outcry over the administration's "zero tolerance" approach to illegal crossings. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, a Republican, reversed a decision to send a National Guard helicopter from his state to the Mexican border to assist in a deployment, citing the administration's "cruel and inhumane" policy.
