XXXTentacion shot in Miami, has no pulse, TMZ reports

Rapper XXTentacion has been killed after an apparent drive-by shooting in Florida

In a later statement released on Twitter, the sheriff's office said: "The adult male that was taken to the hospital has been pronounced dead".

According to the celebrity-news site, the 20-year-old chart-topping hiphop star seemed to be the victim of a targeted hit in Broward County.

The artist's first album, titled "17" and released in August 2017, debuted at the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

However, a source claiming to be close to XXXTentacion's family told The Blast they believed the rapper was targeted to be murdered, not robbed.

XXXTentacion, whose real name is Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, rocketed to fame after his song "Look at Me" went viral. Onfroy was shot and killed, Monday, June 18, 2018, in Deerfield Beach, Fla. He was in his black vehicle and preparing to leave when two armed suspects approached him. "At least one of the suspects fired a gun striking Onfroy".

"I never told you how much you inspired me when you were here", Kanye West wrote after Onfroy's death was confirmed.

"He had some legal allegations before, but the previous year he had only been a positive influence on people's lives, making hit Billboard songs", O'Hara said. Rest In Peace young king'.

Video posted on social media apparently showed Onfroy slumped in his auto.

Rapper Big Sean tweeted that his "heart dropped" when he heard the news, saying "I feel like we only got to see a glimpse of his artistry".

And J. Cole said, in part: "RIP X. Enormous talent and limitless potential and a strong desire to be a better person".

His music was removed from streaming giant Spotify's curated playlists for several weeks earlier this year because his lyrics allegedly promoted "hateful messages", Pitchfork reported.
