Gaza officials: 20 Palestinians wounded at Israeli border

Kushner says will publish Mideast plan 'soon,' newspaper says

Kushner, in his first interview with a Palestinian newspaper, said Washington would be willing to engage with Abbas if he returns to negotiations with Israel, but if he is not willing, the U.S. will likely announce its peace plan with or without the PA president. The American officials held meetings in Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Egypt, but were shunned by the Palestinian leadership itself.

He added that the Arab leaders "want to see a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and an agreement that enables the Palestinians to live in peace".

"The road to peace is clear - commitment to the two-state solution, a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital".

The global community, he added, "is getting frustrated with Palestinian leadership and not seeing many actions that are constructive towards achieving peace".

Kushner addressed the Palestinian public via a local newspaper, Al Quds, urging them not to continue being led down a path of violence and conflict they their "scared" leadership. "He has his talking points which have not changed in the last 25 years", Kushner added.

Also on Saturday, Senior Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat repeated his claim that the USA peace team aims to overthrow the Palestinian Authority.

The Palestinian Authority said Saturday that USA plans to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict are "doomed to fail".

On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the USA envoys during their meeting that he was ready to meet Gaza's needs through the Palestinian Authority's tax and customs revenues Israel collects on its behalf. The Palestinian leader, Kushner said, "says that he is committed to peace, and I don't have any reason to disbelieve him".

According to Palestinian media, a second air strike aimed at an observation post near the security fence was carried out by an Israeli drone.

How the Trump administration would move forward with a peace plan without Palestinian cooperation remains unclear. The royal itinerary mentioned Jerusalem as being part of "the Occupied Palestinian Territories", angering Israeli politicians.

Kushner and Greenblatt reportedly lobbied the gulf potentates to invest up to a billion dollars in energy and infrastructure projects for Gaza, which is ruled by the militant Islamist group Hamas and suffers from a lack of potable water and electricity.
