Abolish ICE Mob Descends on Senate, Leaves Trash Like Slobs - Katie Pavlich

WASHINGTON DC- JUNE 28 Protesters march from Freedom Plaza to demonstrate against family detentions and to demand the end of criminalizing efforts of asylum seekers and immigrants

Capitol Police arrested almost 600 people, who engaged in protests with several Democrat lawmakers. It was organized by the women's march and by the Center for Popular Democracy.

Protesters loudly chanted "What do we want?"

The female-led protest in Washington, D.C., is one of the multiple anti-ICE protests that occurred on Thursday.

More than 700 direct actions are planned in cities and towns across the country on Saturday, as Americans rally against President Donald Trump's "zero tolerance" immigration policy, the forcible separation of families, and the imprisonment of children.

In all, Capitol police arrested at least 575 women for the misdemeanor offense of unlawfully demonstrating in the Capitol.

- Eight protesters were arrested outside an ICE building in Portland, Oregon, that has been closed because of a round-the-clock demonstration. The demonstrators were there in protest of the Trump administration's "zero-tolerance" policy that treats illegal border crossings as criminal offenses.

After June 30, organizers say they'll continue working until their demands are met.

"This moment is an inspiring reminder that the majority of this country is appalled at what's being done in our name", said Anna Galland, executive director of MoveOn.org, which is co-sponsoring the event.

Protesters in the Hart Senate Office Building unfurled banners that read: "End all detention camps" and "Families belong together in freedom". "To hear how they had been treated, to hear how they. heard their children screaming next door for them and wanted to go to them but couldn't", said Jayapal, who was among the hundreds arrested during Thursday's demonstration at the Hart building.

- In Michigan, dozens of people shut down a government meeting to protest a contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to house detainees at a local jail. "Shame! Shame!" at the Trump International Hotel. They said people who were charged and fined could pay 24 hours after their arrests, but it was not clear who had been fined and how much. Organizers of the D.C. rally also plan protests in 351 congressional districts around the country.

The policy led to intense criticism in the United States and overseas, and Trump signed an executive order that would let children stay with their parents as they moved through the legal system, drawing renewed criticism.
