Heitkamp and Dem-NPL Party react to #TrumpFargo rally

President Heads to ND for MAGA Rally

"Heidi will vote "no" on any pick we make", Trump said. After recruiting Rep. Kevin Cramer to run against incumbent Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp this fall, Donald Trump appeared to be more interested in promoting Heitkamp than Cramer. "Heidi Heitkamp will be a 'vote no" for whoever he nominates to replace Kennedy because 'she will be told to do so.' He told the crowd that a vote for Heitkamp or any other Democrat in the state is essentially a vote for impeachment-pushing Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters. But his remarks, especially his attempts to tie Heitkamp to a Democratic effort to oppose any pick he sends to the Senate, show Trump believes the coming court tussle is a winning message for his party.

However, he has also at times praised Heitkamp - including at a September 2017 event in North Dakota, where Trump called Heitkamp a "good woman" and invited her onstage.

Heitkamp was squarely in the president's sights throughout Wednesday's rally. Heidi Heitkamp, although she is a moderate who strays at times from Democratic positions. "Please keep Maxine Waters on the air as your face and your mouthpiece for the Democrats".

He was referring to Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

All of this is true, which is why Cramer began to smell a rat this month when Trump kept playing nice with Heitkamp. "I said I'm not anxious about what's happened in the past, I just want to talk about what we're going to do moving forward", Cramer said.

Back home in North Dakota, Heitkamp's party focused on a self-described "grassroots" effort, according to party Communications Director Alex Rich, to share its "North Dakota First" message.

President Donald Trump is offering a hearty endorsement to congressman Kevin Cramer, the man he says will be "the next United States senator from the great state of North Dakota".

"We must elect more Republicans, we have to do that", the president said Wednesday night.

"I'm very honored he chose to do it during my term in office because he felt confident in me to make the right choice and carry on his legacy", Trump told the crowd hours after the news of Kennedy's decision to leave the court sent shock waves through Washington.

"They now have a new leader", he added.

"I think that it is probably fair to say that he will not be calling me a good woman", Heitkamp said.

"Political speeches are just that, but the next day, I'm ready to get to work", she said in the statement released late Thursday night.

Trump is scheduled to appear at a rally Wednesday evening in a 6,000-seat Fargo hockey arena in a burst of campaign appearances that has included Nevada, Minnesota and SC.
