The Dallas Mavericks and DeAndre Jordan verbally agree to deal

Dallas Mavericks Working On DeAndre Jordan Trade: Report

Three years after the Los Angeles Clippers basically held DeAndre Jordan hostage in order to prevent him from signing with the Dallas Mavericks, the two teams are reportedly close to a deal that would send Jordan back to his home state of Texas. Instead, he's expected to remain a Maverick with the team looking to offer him a new deal, albeit a cheaper one, per Bobby Marks of ESPN via his colleague, Tim McMahon.

This is Jordan's second turn at free agency.

Only $2.1 million of Teodosic's $6.3-million contract for 2018-19 is guaranteed.

The Dallas Mavericks are the heavy favorites to land Jordan, just a few years after he spurned Dallas at the last minute and re-signed with Los Angeles.

Jordan averaged 12.0 points and 15.2 rebounds last season with the Clippers, his 5th straight year averaging a double-double.

The 29-year-old Houston native was originally set to sign with the Mavericks 3 years prior before backing out and re-signing with LA. Jordan played a franchise-record 750 games over 10 seasons with the Clippers. He's also average 10.7 rebounds over his career, including at least 13 a game the past five seasons.

Jordan can officially sign after the moratorium period ends Friday.

Jordan and the Mavericks aren't allowed to discuss or negotiate a deal until free agency begins at 12:01 a.m. ET Sunday, but both sides are well past Jordan's change of heart on a Dallas free-agency commitment in 2015 and prepared to partner together, league sources said.

Though Jordan, 29, could nearly certainly earn a lucrative multi-year deal on the open market, the Warriors are hoping to entice Jordan with the taxpayer mid-level exception, worth 5.3 million for one season.
