George Clooney car accident injured Sardinia Italy later news update Amal

An official at Sassari town hall confirmed to the BBC that Clooney had been involved in a "minor accident" but had no serious injuries.

Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera released footage Tuesday that shows the actor's scooter colliding with a Mercedes in Sardinia earlier in the day.

"He is recovering at his home and will be fine", Clooney spokesman Stan Rosenfield told The Associated Press. The video shows what is reported as Clooney's scooter crashing into the auto while another scooter alongside him manages to veer around it.

He was rushed to the island's John Paul II Hospital following the "horror" crash, but while injured, he is not believed to be in critical condition.

George Clooney was riding a motorbike and slammed into a vehicle.

Local media representatives who gathered at the hospital said the Oscar-winning actor-director left in a van through a side exit.

Clooney was travelling to the set of his TV miniseries Catch-22 in Costa Corallina when his bike is understood to have hit a vehicle that "suddenly turned", Italian newspaper La Nuova reported. The vehicle driver called an ambulance which took Clooney to hospital, AGI added.

Clooney is a frequent visitor to Italy. George has been working on his new project Catch 22 (based on the novel by Joseph Heller), with the star directing, producing and starring in the six-episode miniseries.

Clooney has a home on the Italian mainland, on Lake Como.
