Serena Williams sets up Wimbledon final clash against Angelique Kerber

Goerges

Serena Williams of the United States celebrates winning her semi-final match against Germany's Julia Goerges at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, London July 12, 2018.

She is now set to face Angelique Kerber, who defeated Jeena Ostapenko in the other semi-final, in a replay of the 2016 Wimbledon final.

Champion in 2015 and 2016 before missing previous year while pregnant, Williams' victory extended her winning streak on the famous London grass to 20 matches.

For the past 18 years, Smoller has been by Serena Williams's side for nearly every step. Goerges, who has never been so far into a Grand Slam, showed no sign of nerves at all, despite a break-point in her first service game.

Hardly so. And Williams has made a point of raising the curtain on her rocky road back to make a larger point to women who feel overwhelmed by the changes in their bodies, emotions and priorities following childbirth.

"The last years, not only 2016 and 2017, also the years before, give me a lot of experience and to know what is really important in life, what's not, and what you have to focus on".

The Wimbledon ladies' finals are set to have a double dose of royal glamour this weekend, as the Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex are confirmed to be attending the match together on Saturday afternoon.

The semifinal between Williams and Goerges began on a high note, marked by high quality serving and a robust exchange of ground-strokes.

Today, at 36 and just 10 months removed from a hard childbirth that was followed by grave health complications, she's bemused by those who expected her to reach Wimbledon's final this year, so soon after returning to competition.

Ostapenko, seeded 12th at SW19, threw everything at her opponent but was not able to haul herself back into the contest at all.

I couldn't even walk to my mailbox, so it's definitely not normal for me to be in a Wimbledon final. 'I think it doesn't matter against who she is playing. "I'm just enjoying every moment", Williams added.

After taking tentative steps in her return to the sport in which she has always been the dominant force, just 13 matches into her comeback and ranked 181st in the world, she appeared to be working at the level that enabled her to win 23 Grand Slams. In her seven victorious finals at The Championships, she has dropped just two sets: to Venus Williams in 2003 and to Agnieszka Radwanska in 2012.

In the week leading up to her first-round match against Viktoriya Tomova, Williams posted a daily countdown on Instagram that included flashback Wimbledon photos and uplifting sentiments. "It's not inevitable for me to be playing like this". "I didn't know I would have such traumatic thoughts".
