Anderson faces another epic battle... to get fit for final

Roger Federer Wimbledon

Nadal won the match 5-7, 7-6, 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 in 4hr 47min.

Although the All England Club has a retractable roof with lights, a curfew of 11 p.m.is implemented in order not to disturb its residential neighbors in southwest London. Nadal leads overall (26-25) and at Grand Slam tournaments (9-4), while they're even at Wimbledon (1-1), where Djokovic won their 2011 final.

But world No.1 broke twice in the second set and fended off more break points to level the match.

He lost last year's US Open final to Rafael Nadal in straight sets.

His heroics against Isner followed just two days after he'd been through another five-set ordeal, this one lasting more than four hours, when he came back from two sets down and a match point to beat Grand Slam superstar Roger Federer.

Friday's fifth set wasn't quite as long, but still, it lasted almost 3 hours as the semifinal became a test of endurance more than skill.

"At the same time, I'm through to the finals - wow, what can I say about that!" "My left heel is killing me". My left heel is killing and I have an very bad blister on my right foot.

"I hope this is a sign for Grand Slams to change".

"I personally think a sensible option would be 12-All". He is the second South African to reach the final, after Brian Norton 97 years ago.

Isner, who previously said Wimbledon had become "a house of horrors" for him since his 2010 match, had been trying to become the first American man to reach the final since Andy Roddick in 2009. The victor of the match will face off against the victor of John Isner and Kevin Anderson.

Instead, the two players - and a disappointed audience - were sent home after the third set on Friday with Djokovic leading 6-4 3-6 7-6 (11-9) after a tense tiebreaker that had more entertaining rallies than some entire matches.

Anderson's fifth set alone lasted almost 3 hours as his semifinal became a test of endurance more than skill.

Despite coming out on top, Anderson echoed those sentiments and suggested the duration of the match may have taken away from the spectacle for the fans - one of whom shouted, "Come on guys, we want to see Rafa!" in the 27th game of the decider.

Games went with serve in the third set with Nadal failing to convert three set points in the tie-break, allowing Djokovic to take the set when his opponent netted a backhand.

After playing his worst game of the match, Djokovic then played his best, breaking Nadal with a fabulous cross-court passing shot to get the set back on serve. Still, Isner did jokingly ask chair umpire Marija Cicak at one point during the last set whether they could play a tiebreaker.

Repeatedly, the answer was, of course, "No", even when Anderson held break points at 7-all, 10-all and 17-all. The U.S. Open does use a tiebreaker after 6-6.

"I think it's long overdue", Isner said.

A 19th ace of the match bailed American Isner out of a potentially hard situation.
