This Week: Strzok Grilled By Congress, Manafort Scrambles Before Trial

Meadows tweeted following the hearing, "Remarkably, we learned new information today suggesting the DOJ had not notified Lisa Page of Congress' outstanding interview requests for over 7 months now".

Republicans aimed to show that Strzok went easy on Hillary Clinton's emails and rigged a witch hunt against Trump.

"This decision is long overdue", Judiciary Committee chairman Bob Goodlatte said in announcing the arrangement. "We did not see the smug attitude that we saw from Strozk".

In her near-five-hour session, Page also reportedly answered questions Strzok declined to in his public hearing on Thursday.

"The forensic examination was done by the ICIG and they can document that", Gohmert said, further charging Strzok "you were given that information and you did nothing with it".

"She's an irrelevant actor in a sideshow", Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Maryland Democrat, said of Page.

Strzok is not the flawless messenger, but he was right about this message: "Russian interference in our elections constitutes a grave attack on our democracy", he said.

"It's much more sedate, much more calm", said Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, an Illinois Democrat.

Strzok's peculiar reaction to one question caught the eye of viewers and many took to Twitter to confirm that their eyes weren't deceiving them.

Although Strzok has said through his lawyer that he was eager to tell his side of the story, he made clear his exasperation at being the focal point of a congressional hearing at a time when Russian election interference has been successfully "sowing discord in our nation and shaking faith in our institutions".

Acting like they were cast members on a reality TV show - yelling, interrupting each other, and hurling insults - members of the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees spent nearly 10 hours alternately attacking and defending Strzok, a suspended Federal Bureau of Investigation deputy assistant director.

Her hearing is expected to continue on Monday.

Democrats seemed to agree with that sentiment, as California Congressman Ted Lieu said it was "a stupid and ridiculous hearing".

"Mr. Horowitz got a call four times from someone wanting to brief him about this, and he never returned the call", Gohmert said according to Rosiak's reporting. Strzok and Page were texting because they were clandestinely dating, because that is how clandestinely dating people act.

Strzok was removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe earlier this year after his texts were revealed. "It's mandatory." Page served as the deputy counsel to then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and worked briefly for the Mueller team, but was taken off the special counsel's staff when the text messages were discovered.

"I don't appreciate having an FBI agent with an unprecedented level of animus working on two major investigations during 2016", Gowdy said. "Questions like 'Do you love Lisa Page?' are not relevant". Trey Gowdy of SC, the chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte of Virginia threatened to initiate contempt proceedings against her.

"They haven't come up with a scintilla of evidence; no facts, that the president had anything to do with the Russians", he said.
