Boys trapped in Thailand cave mourn diver who died in rescue mission

Widow of hero diver who died during Thai cave rescue urges the boys not to blame themselves

Some of the boys recorded messages of thanks to the people who rescued them, and to the world.

"After an hour when they wanted to leave, the water level was rising".

Eight boys were brought out on stretchers over the first two days of the efforts, four on Sunday and four more on Monday.

His boss Dr Andrew Pearce said Harris was grieving for his father.

Doctors also said they are getting ready to do another psychological exam on the boys after some spent as many as 18 days isolated in the cave.

Officials at Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital said at a press conference early Saturday the boys are tentatively scheduled to be released on Thursday.

The whole world breathed a huge sigh of relief when the 12 school boys and their assistant coach were pulled out of the flooded cave in Thailand completely unharmed, bringing an end to the near three-week ordeal that spurred an global rescue effort.

Dr Harris assessed the boys and decided they were up to the task of making the trek out of the cave after being sedated. A total of 90 divers were involved in the Thai-led rescue, according to Thai authorities.

Doctors said on Saturday that the coach, 25-year-old Ekkapol "Ake" Chantawong, has gained weight quickly and is physically well, but he is the one they are most concerned about protecting from any mental angst.

The head of the rescue mission, Narongsak Osottanakorn, has stated that the world should remember him as the true hero of the 17-day operation.

The coach also dug them into the muddy wall to keep warm and sleep.

That was British cave diver John Volanthen, who found the boys nine days after they went missing.

"Dr Harris's efforts here are nothing short of absolutely exceptional and beyond and above the call of duty, but that's typical of numerous doctors that make up the medical profession in Australia", he said.

"The favourable outcome that has been achieved is nearly beyond our imagination when we first became involved in this operation", they said.

Reflecting on the mission, Jason Mallinson, 50, a father-of-one from Huddersfield, said the death of Mr Kunan was the wake up call to the Thai Navy that illuminated how crucial the British crew's expertise would be.

Each of the boys, who range in age from 11 to 16, are shown sitting upright in their hospital beds, appearing healthy in hospital gowns and surgical masks.

The youngest child, Chanin Wiboon Rungruang, 11, thanked the Thai Navy SEALS "for your support".

"A lot of parasites will want them to sign the rights to books, to films", said Galleguillos.

"Thank you for worrying about us and coming to help us".
