Sri Lanka thrash South Africa to sweep Test series 2-0

Keshav Maharaj bagged 8 wickets on Day 1

Till date, only Englishman Jim Laker (10/53) and former India skipper Anil Kumble (10/74) have picked all 10 wickets in an innings of a Test match.

Sri Lanka ended the 2nd day with 151 runs on the board and seven wickets in hand.

After being outshone by the off-spinners Akila Dananjaya and Dilruwan Perera in the first innings, Herath showed his class to close out the match and series with 6/98 off 32.5 overs.

Lakmal, the lone paceman in the Sri Lanka attack, did not bowl himself in the first innings and has yet to roll his arm in the second as his spinners wreaked havoc against the leaden-footed South Africans.

Sri Lanka beat South Africa by 199 runs with more than a day to spare in the second and final test to complete a 2-0 series sweep at Colombo's Sinhalese Sports Club Ground on Monday. Sri Lanka also lost Kusal Mendis when he was run out for 18.

Dimuth Karunaratne was batting on 59 at stumps, his fourth successive 50-plus knock in the series, with Angelo Mathews on 12 at the other end. As things stand, Sri Lanka are well on top and it looks quite tough for South Africa to come back into this game. Dananjaya who is classed as an off-spinner but bowls several varieties of deliveries including leg-spin, googly, carom ball and "doosra" confounded the hapless South African batsmen to finish with figures of 5 for 52 off 13 overs - his second five-for in a short three-Test career.
