GOP Strategist: Cohen Tape Reveals Trump Systematically Silenced Women

President Donald Trump lashed out at his longtime personal lawyer Wednesday after CNN aired a tape in which the pair discussed how to hush up allegations that he had an affair with a Playboy model.

ABC News has obtained the secret audio recording between Donald Trump and his attorney Michael Cohen.

Now, the recording is available for the world to listen to.

According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, McDougal and American Media agreed to a deal in which the tabloid would publish her fitness columns in exchange for keeping the Trump story quiet.

Earlier in the conversation Cohen suggested that he "open a company for the transfer of all of that info" to the National Enquirer and its parent company, American Media Inc.

In the tape, Cohen said "we'll have to pay" to purchase the rights to McDougal's story.

It's also not 100 percent clear from the crosstalk whether the candidate is saying the payment (to reimburse the National Enquirer, owned by Trump pal David Pecker, which spent $150,000 to buy and bury the rights to Karen McDougal's story) should be made in cash. When it comes time for the financing, which will be. Weisselberg has detailed information about the Trump Organization's operations, business deals and finances.

In the conversation with Mr. Cuomo, Mr. Cohen discusses the $130,000 paid to Ms. Daniels, the porn actress whose real name is Stephanie Clifford and who claimed to have had an affair a decade ago with the future president.

Cohen, who once said that he was prepared to "take a bullet" and "do anything" to protect Trump, is under scrutiny from federal prosecutors in Manhattan. Mr Cohen: "No, no".

Trump's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, confirmed to The Times that Trump discussed payments to McDougal with Cohen, but he said that ultimately no payment was made. Trump seems to say, "Pay with cash", but Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani released a transcript in which he alleges Trump says: "Don't pay with cash".

Government watchdog group Common Cause has said that the proposed payment benefited Trump's presidential election campaign and the failure to document it was potentially illegal.

The tape involves Karen McDougal, a former Playboy model who says she had a months-long fling with Trump after they met in 2006, shortly after Trump's wife Melania gave birth to their son, Barron.

"I've spoken to Allen Weisselberg about how to set the whole thing up", Cohen tells Trump.

Stormy Daniels' attorney Michael Avenatti urged Cohen again on Wednesday to immediately release "all" the tapes, other evidence in his possession and "come clean" about his conduct and that of the president. "When Mr. Giuliani ... accused my client, Mr. Cohen, of saying the word 'cash, ' I said, 'Wait for the tapes'". "He obviously cuts it off in mid-sentence and that in itself is suspicious". "If you wanted to hide something, you would not do it by corporation or cheque", he said.

Mr Giuliani said no payment was made in the end although he did not know why that was the case.
