Willian Fails To Report To Chelsea Training

Maurizio Sarri says he expects Willian to be part of his midfield this season

And in an exclusive interview with The Sun, the Belgian's agent Christophe Henrotay made clear in no uncertain terms that Courtois has his heart set on a move back to Madrid.

The Belgian is due to return to Chelsea training over the next few days after helping his country finish third at the World Cup and being voted the best goalkeeper in Russian Federation.

The club are fully aware of his movements and say they gave him prior permission to return late following his World Cup campaign with Brazil this summer, dismissing reports he had gone AWOL.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri said he is "very confident" that Willian will stay with the club this summer but admitted the future of Thibaut Courtois depends largely on the goalkeeper's decision.

While Stoke have claimed that there have been no substantial bids for the England stopper, if Chelsea lose Courtois, then there is every chance they will chuck some big money at him.

The Blues were also unable to secure a top class replacement for Courtois, having failed in an attempt to sign Alisson ahead of Liverpool.

"But he has turned down a better offer elsewhere because this is more than a financial decision".

However, Chelsea are desperate to keep the 26-year-old and will only allow him to leave for a significant fee, even if that means risking losing him for free when his contract expires next summer.

'It is understandable people might be upset because he wants to leave the club, we accept that. The Chelsea new man was speaking after watching his side go done on penalties to London rivals Arsenal after an entertaining 1-1 friendly draw on Wednesday night. "It depends on the club, it depends especially on him, but I hope Courtois will be our goalkeeper".
