Here's what else the Trump administration did this summer

EPA: Trump's easing of coal rules could kill 1,400 people per year

The administration of US President Donald Trump has proposed new rules that would scale back limits on coal-fired power plants, a move critics said would have dire environmental and health consequences.

The Trump administration announced Tuesday it would be changing the rule, but the proposed change hasn't been published yet, and the EPA must allow at least 60 days for public comment before releasing a final rule.

The EPA said the plan could reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the power sector by 33 or 34 percent by 2030 compared to 2005 levels and provide $400 million (€345 million) in annual net benefits.

Trump has long targeted the plan - the cornerstone of Barack Obama's climate change agenda - by portraying it as disastrous for coal-producing regions in particular and the United States economy in general.

EPA officials said they could give no firm projections for the health effects of their plan because that will depend on how states regulate power plants within their borders.

Her appearance coincided with the Trump administration's rollback and replacement of Obama-era regulations on emissions from coal-fired power plants. "And, together, we won an historic stay from the Supreme Court of the United States - stopping the so-called 'Clean Power Plan'". On Tuesday, a federal judge allowed California, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Oregon and MA to file a joint amicus brief supporting the state in the case.

"Even under the rosiest assumptions by his own agencies, would conclude that his would cause the premature death of 1,400 people a year, every year", Washington Governor Jay Inslee said Wednesday.

The new plan, an advance copy of which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, recommends a menu of upgrades created to let coal-fired plants produce energy with less fuel and seeks to eliminate triggers that mandate costly technological overhauls at coal plants.

Hall said these long-term energy plans weigh the energy mix, consumer preferences and the environment of the future. It says the new plan would act legally and provide more flexibility to the states. The new rules could take years to implement, however, as they're likely to be challenged in court.

The new rule is a dramatic departure from the Obama-era measure that it replaces. I'm interested because this is impacting my health, it's impacting your health, it's impacting your health. When the president asked him to become acting EPA administrator, Wheeler said the goal has always been to fight for clean air and water while protecting as Acting EPA Administrator.

President Trump rolled back Obama's fuel efficiency rules earlier this month. The change of regulatory direction by the Trump administration means coal is no longer targeted for elimination like it was under Obama and his EPA. The earlier rule never went into effect after legal challenges but would have required North Dakota to cut carbon dioxide emissions by almost 45 percent by 2030, causing concern among utility executives.
