Trump blasts Jeff Sessions and compares him to 'Lyin’ James Comey'

President Trump continued his attacks on Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Labor Day, accusing him of endangering the party's hopes in the November elections.

He's suggesting the Department of Justice put Republicans jeopardy ahead of midterms with recent indictments of two GOP congressmen.

US President Donald Trump has accused Attorney General Jeff Sessions of damaging the midterm re-election chances of two Republican members of Congress by prosecuting them. "Two easy wins now in doubt because there is not enough time", Trump said in his tweet.

The President's tweets about various indictments brought against California Rep. Duncan Hunter who misused more than $250,000 in campaign funds and then threw his wife under the bus, and Chris Collins of NY who was indicted on insider trading and wire fraud.

In an Oval Office interview last week with Bloomberg News, Trump declined to say whether he'd keep Sessions in his job after the election. The White House did not immediately react.

The president was referring to Reps. Both are Trump supporters. The comment on Monday was the latest indication that Trump, who ran on a pledge to "drain the swamp", believes his political allies should be immune from prosecution, regardless of the evidence stacked against them.

Both congressmen have pleaded not guilty in their cases.

The president has repeatedly attacked Sessions for recusing himself from an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 USA presidential election campaign.

Senator Jeff Flake, a Republican, said on Twitter the statement was "not the conduct of a President committed to defending and upholding the constitution, but rather a President looking to use the Department of Justice to settle political scores".

The president has repeatedly denied there was any collusion between his campaign and Moscow.

While Trump suggested the investigations into the two lawmakers began during the Obama administration, the charges against Collins stem from actions he allegedly took previous year - including calls he placed while at the White House for a congressional picnic hosted by Trump. The Dems all hated him, wanted him out, thought he was disgusting - UNTIL I FIRED HIM!

The White House had no comment on Trump's tweets, but said he chose to not leave the White House and focus on trade calls.

President Trump has tweeted things that at the very least pushed the bounds of obstruction of justice.
