Mac Miller, rapper and producer, dies at 26

Mac-Miller

The rapper Mac Miller has died of an apparent overdose at the age of 26, TMZ reported Friday. TMZ reports Miller was found dead at the scene.

Miller had been open about his struggles with substance abuse, which he addressed candidly in the short documentary "Stopped Making Excuses".

In May, he was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI), after totalling his auto and fleeing the scene.

The rapper's "Donald Trump" song was released five years before the then-businessman and reality show host was elected President. Mac fled the scene after crashing the vehicle but later confessed to law enforcement.

He went on to release four more studio albums: 2013's Watching Movies with the Sound Off, 2015's GO:OD AM, 2016's The Divine Feminine and 2018's Swimming.

It was grizzled determination more than natural talent (though there was plenty of that too) that made a rap icon of Mac Miller.

The album included the song "Come Back to Earth", with Miller trying to chart his way through tough times: "In my own way, I feel like living some alternate reality/And I was drowning, but now I'm swimming through stressful waters to relief". Miller was 26 years old.

The LA coroner said the cause of his death is yet to be determined.

After reportedly being arrested for drinking under influence and a hit and run in May, he confessed to being two times over the legal limit.

A headline announcing the death of Mac Miller this morning.

"Although the two ended their relationship, Ariana always shared a deep connection with Mac and wanted nothing but the best for him", the source added of the former couple.

Following the incident, Miller said in an interview with Beats 1, the accident was the "best thing that could have happened". "It's just a part of something that's going to continue to help make me who I am". He says, "I'd rather be the corny white rapper than the drugged-out mess who can't even get out of his house".

His family confirmed his death in a statement, calling the rapper born as Malcolm McCormick "a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans". Grande went on to date "Saturday Night Live" actor Pete Davidson, to whom she's now engaged. Grande responded bluntly by saying "shaming / blaming women for a man's inability to keep his shit together is a major problem".
