The First Trailer for X-Men: Dark Phoenix Is Here

X-Men Dark Phoenix Trailer NFL Thursday Night Football

With any luck, this take on the legendary Dark Phoenix saga will give fans of the comic what they desperately wanted after the lackluster 2006 adaptation in X-Men: The Last Stand.

Jean Grey, who's as complicated as it gets for superheroes, will be played by Sansa - I mean, Sophie Turner, of Game of Thrones fame.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set to be released on February 14, 2019. This might well be the last X-Men picture under the auspices of Fox, with Disney-Marvel in control of the future of X-Men. It will simply be called "Dark Phoenix", according to a new poster for the movie and Fox's official synopsis.

"In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey".

Along with Turner, returning cast members include James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, and Evan Peters as Quicksilver.

Also featuring a quick shot of Jessica Chastain in a role that is yet to be properly identified, this first Fox-sanctioned look at Dark Phoenix should help quell some of the troublesome noise - caused by release date changes and reshoots - that has recently engulfed the project.

The first full trailer will be with us later tonight, by which point we should have a pretty clear understanding of Simon Kinberg's cosmic epic and the direction in which Dark Phoenix is headed.

Back in December, Sophie Turner told EW she studied multiple personality disorder and schizophrenia in order to play Jean's duality. "I've seen evil, and I'm looking at it now", he says.

With no context provided it's very possible that the mutant master of magnetism, also known as Erik Lehnsherr, is playing possum, ready to rise up and deliver a punishing metallic-based reprisal to whatever it is that occurred here. I kind of appreciate that, as it seems to indicate they have faith enough in the project not to wholly rely on the branding. We're still betting she's Lilandra pretending to be a human.
