Jurgen Klopp defends Mohamed Salah after poor form continues against Chelsea

Giggs leaves out Manchester United in list of Premier League challengers

Eden Hazard could quite easily fire Chelsea to the Premier League title again, but it would be a risky strategy to expect the Belgian to sustain his current hot streak for the remainder of the season.

"We created a lot of chances in the first half and we were unlucky not to score in the first half".

Roberto Firmino saw a header hooked off the line by David Luiz as the visitors kept Chelsea pinned back, before Sturridge rescued a result with a curling strike from almost 30 yards out that left Kepa with no chance.

He was withdrawn shortly after the hour mark and replaced by Xherdan Shaqiri, who later assisted Daniel Sturridge's leveller, but Klopp felt Salah was getting in good positions despite his bad finishing.

Jurgen Klopp's side looked to be heading for a second defeat to the Blues this week after Eden Hazard struck a brilliant opener, but Sturridge's emphatic effort from distance in the 89th minute rescued a point.

"[To finish] in the first two for me it's very hard, because City and Liverpool are a step forward to us".

It was his 50th Premier League goal for Liverpool and kept them unbeaten in the league this season, level with Manchester City on 19 points at the top of the table.

It's hard. We had chances, we played fantastic football.

The dramatic equaliser came after their established front three, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, were unusually profligate in front of goal.

Salah scored 32 Premier League goals last season but he is yet to replicate the same form that crowned him PFA Player of the Year.

So it's all on Hazard then!

There was however prior reason for Liverpool fans to be concerned ahead of the meeting with reports that imposing defender Virgil Van Dijk was set to be sidelined for the important clash, with a late fitness test leaving hopes hanging.

Klopp also attempted to downplay Mohamed Salah's withdrawal after 66 minutes, with Xherdan Shaqiri replacing the Egypt global, who squandered a number of good opportunities during his return to Chelsea. There are six or seven top teams, top in Europe, not only in England, so it's not easy to get into the Champions League. "He's a great player, a legend of the game".
