Premier left 'upset' after protesters disrupted racing promotion at Opera House

The Chaser project new ad onto Opera House as Jones apologises for Louise Herron interview

Overnight the comedy group shared footage of some members driving around Sydney in a vehicle with a projector attached, projecting the words "Advertise Here: Call Alan" onto the NSW Art Gallery, Parliament House and the Opera House.

A crowd of several hundred people gathered in the Opera House forecourt chanting and using torches to stop the light display.

Political manipulator Jones, whose superpower is to be able to wrap gutless Liberal Party politicians around his little orifice, is behind the verbal bullying of Opera House CEO Louise Herron.

Jones had called for Louise Herron to be sacked during a testy confrontation on Friday after she ruled out allowing words or branding highlighting The Everest to be projected onto the Opera House because "it's not a billboard".

The outrage had already prompted racing authorities to drop plans to hold the barrier draw publicly, so as to avoid "security risks", and betting was suspended from noon until the announcement of the draw result in the evening.

They later also targeted broadcaster Alan Jones' luxury Circular Quay apartment with the lights.

"We don't really have any expectations other than what I mentioned - having a bit of fun with our audience", he said.

The Opera House did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but has previously directed Reuters to the state government.

Since the NSW Government directed the Opera House to allow the promotional material on racing to be projected, the backlash over the decision has reached a boiling point.

On Monday National Trust NSW conservation director Graham Quint suggested the move to project advertising onto the Opera House could be illegal, given its commercial nature.

The NSW Heritage Council said it was extremely disappointed with the government's decision which would turn the "international architectural masterpiece" into a billboard.

When asked whether the promotion was legal, a spokesman for NSW Heritage Minister Gabrielle Upton pointed to the same exemptions they had been questioned over.
