Storm Callum: Amber weather alert issued for Wales

UK Weather: Met Office Issues Yellow Rain Warnings As Storm Callum Approaches

Today's unseasonably warm weather will be replaced by the strong winds and heavy rain felt at the beginning of the week as we head into Friday and Saturday.

Here an Amber Warning is in place all day.

Storm Callum is set to hit the United Kingdom later this week, bringing heavy rain and gale-force winds up to 80mph, as the Met Office says there is a danger to life.

The coastal counties are expected to see strong winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour, while winds of 110 kilometers per hour are to hit inland counties.

The Met Office has warned there is a potential "danger to life" from flying debris.

The charts reveal a deep low-pressure system over Ireland on Tuesday and Wednesday next with another intense storm front appearing to follow on across the Atlantic from North America.

"For Tayside and Fife on Friday there are no warnings in force but the rain is going to continue across the area right into Saturday". More localised surface water and river flooding is also possible for high ground parts of the south-west of England on Friday and Saturday.

According to the Met Office, gusts of 50 miles per hour are likely with potential for gusts of 60 miles per hour around exposed coasts and hills.

After the worst of the wind has swept the country, the tail-end of Hurricane Leslie will bring rainfall, raising the prospect of coastal and river flooding. One for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Clare, and Kerry is in place from 10pm on Thursday until 12 noon on Friday.

Storm Callum will end Britain's mid-week heatwave, which will see millions of Britons bake in another Indian summer.

Arriva is also cancelling services between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog on both Friday and Saturday.

"We are urging people to take the necessary precautions", Ms Lowe said.

South Wales is bracing itself for a two-day deluge that's expected to cause flash floods and travel chaos.

The council has distributed sandbags to protect homes at risk of flooding.
