Meghan Markle's promise to Harry's 'favourite Aussie' Daphne Dunne

Breaking news: The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expecting their first child

Members of the royal family have stated they are "delighted" for the couple, but how exactly did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle break the news to their family?

The two are on a 16-day tour of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand that their Kensington Palace staff said would not be altered despite confirmation that the American former actress is pregnant.

The couple were presented with traditional hats and the first of many gifts for their unborn baby.

In Australia, they will pet a koala in a Sydney zoo, visit the drought-stricken Outback town of Dubbo and meet indigenous leaders on Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island, in northeastern Queensland state.

But there was one particular person in the crowd who was eagerly awaiting to meet Prince Harry for the third time - war widow, Daphne Dunne. As of right now, we've had multiple blowout weddings, adorable baby births, and showstopping events including but not limited to: Trooping of the Colour, Queen Elizabeth's 65th coronation anniversary, and oh, right, Harry and Meghan's own extravagant royal wedding.

Kensington Palace announced that the couple were expecting their first child together on Monday October 15, although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly shared their happy news with the rest of the royal family at Princess Eugenie's wedding on Friday.

The pregnancy has made front-page news across Australia.

Two months earlier, at an official engagement in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Meghan joked while looking at innovative baby products, "I'm sure at some point we'll need the whole lot".

Named 2018's best dressed woman by People magazine, Meghan wore a white cocktail dress by Australian designer Karen Gee underneath a beige trench coat that revealed just a hint of a baby bump. I said, "Well you should, because your mother, you know, produces them to us".

The tour coincides with the third Invictus Games, an worldwide sports competition Harry founded in 2014 for wounded veterans and members of the military, which kicks off Saturday.

After Kensington Palace last night confirmed the Duchess of Sussex was pregnant, Royal fever stepped up a notch. He just continued on with what he was doing, which was talking to me, and then when he started to go he gave me a kiss on the cheek. "We are really impressed to see you serving beer and tea at an afternoon reception in true Aussie style", Harry added.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were greeting the crowds outside the Sydney Opera House, when Harry spotted a familiar face. The baby is due in the spring.
