Saudi Hollywood deal hit by Khashoggi disappearance

Saudi Arabia government pledges ‘greater action’ if US retaliates for Khashoggi disappearance

Citing two unidentified sources, CNN reported on Monday that Saudi Arabia was preparing a report that would acknowledge Khashoggi was killed as the result of an interrogation gone wrong. In statements after the call, both praised the creation of a joint Saudi-Turkish probe.

It is feared the Washington Post columnist, who lived in the United States, was killed and dismembered when he visited the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Saudi government, it said, would shield the prince by blaming an intelligence official for the botched operation.

His disappearance has sparked a worldwide outcry.

"Saudi Arabia is the biggest economy of the region, and the current reform plans rely on opening it further to private investment", said Karen Young, a political economist who studies the Gulf states.

Turkish officials say they fear a Saudi hit team killed Khashoggi, who has been missing almost two weeks.

Saudi officials say Khashoggi left the building unharmed.

Saudi King Salman spoke to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan by phone on Sunday, the Saudi foreign ministry said, telling Erdogan: "No-one will get (to) undermine the strength of this relationship". Speaking to reporters later in the morning, Mr. Trump suggested Khashoggi may have been murdered by "rogue killers" operating outside the authority of the Saudi government.

The US president gave no evidence to support the theory.

The government, Conservatives, and NDP all expressed their shared concerns about Khashoggi's disappearance and suspected death. He entered the consulate alone and never came out.

"He may go to Turkey". Told that a cleaning crew walked into the consulate before the investigative team arrived, one expert said: "You saw that? Wow".

October 7: Saudi government officials deny involvement in Khashoggi's disappearance after reports that he was killed. It says one of the sources told them that the intention was to abduct Khashoggi and it had not been authorized by the Saudi government.

"The king has ordered the public prosecutor to open an internal investigation into the Khashoggi matter based on the information from the joint team in Istanbul", an official quoted by Reuters news agency said.

Khashoggi went missing after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul earlier this month. "Those bearing responsibility for the disappearance of Mr. Khashoggi must be held to account".

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir and ambassador to Washington, Prince Khaled bin Salman, greeted Pompeo at the airport. Great Britain, France and Germany also vowed retaliation.

The Saudi riyal fell to its lowest in two years and its worldwide bond prices slipped over fears that foreign investment could shrink amid global pressure.

Saudi stocks have also been hit, suffering days of heavy losses, but made a strong comeback yesterday with the Tadawul All-Shares Index (TASI) rising over 4%.

Reporters waiting outside the consulate in Istanbul's Levent district said early October 16 that Turkish crime scene investigators turned off all the lights and surveyed the interior of the Saudi consulate with a special blue light used in forensics probes.

The meeting is on, even though several officials and media companies have pulled out of the conference due to the Khashoggi's disappearance.
