Raiders absolutely fleece Cowboys in Amari Cooper deal

Dallas traded a first-round pick to the Raiders to pick up wide receiver Amari Cooper, which gives the Raiders three 2019 draft picks and gives the Cowboys a much-needed playmaker at wide receiver who may benefit from a change of scenery.

Amari Cooper had a shot to become a member of the Philadelphia Eagles until the Cowboys swooped in. Oakland is tanking like none other, sitting at 1-5 and now armed with three first-round picks for the 2019 draft. Cooper has just 22 catches for 280 yards and one touchdown this season. He is a former fourth overall pick, however, and a move to quarterback Dak Prescott's offense perhaps will do him good.

Instead, Dallas tried to implement a receiver-by-committee approach that has resulted in the 29th ranked passing offense in the National Football League so far, averaging just 183 passing yards a game.

This is a very headscratching decision from the Dallas Cowboys. According to the rumors, several teams including NFC East rivals the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins were interested in Cooper. The trade of Cooper makes it clear the Raiders are blowing things up and restarting in year one of the new Jon Gruden era.

The biggest move, and the most controversial one, from the Raiders was dealing Khalil Mack to the Bears for a pair of first round pick, which was only made worse by Mack being great, the Raiders being terrible rushing the passer, and Gruden continuously wondering why that was.

Whether McKenzie is on board with Gruden's overhaul is unknown - the GM on Monday did claim that he does not feel as though he's being pushed out of the way.

Take the Cooper trade.

For Gruden, it's just another step in the rebuild.
