Google Search Gets Quick Access Controls for Privacy, Ads Settings, Activity Controls

Google Brings Privacy Controls a Little Closer to Search

And, yes, this means you can delete your Google Search History with only a few clicks or taps. You can now also control the ads you see through the Ad Settings menu and choose the information Google saves by looking at Activity Controls.

Google says it's rolling out the new feature on mobile and desktop today; if you don't see it yet, it should show up soon. In the past, those looking to review or manage their data would've been navigated away to their Google Account to make the same changes. Google's intention with the new account experience is to surface the data from those apps in the apps themselves.

Now though, thanks to Google's latest "Your Data" initiative, you can actually alter your privacy controls directly within Google Search. Now, you can find these review controls directly within Google Search. That'll get you into the page I referenced above.

The data includes more than just search terms - search keeps a log of everything you did while interacting with Google. The tech giant has announced that it is building data privacy controls - and clear explanations of what it does with user data - into Search itself, on both desktop and mobile.

With a company as far-reaching as Google, concerns about user data are naturally always at the forefront (or at least they should be).

Did you know that Google is stashing information about your Google searches? The company also recently updated its Privacy Policy, making it a lot easier to read and understand, a move spurred by Europe's General Data Protection Regulation. The same controls will arrive for the users of Google's app on Android and iOS in the coming weeks. Second, users will be able to react more quickly to ads they don't want to see. Realizing this is too complicated for most users, Google says it'll expand this new approach to Maps and other Google products.
