Raiders Players Call Jon Gruden's Trade of Amari Cooper a "Knockout Punch"

Derek Carr has lost confidence of teammates, appearing to 'cry after being sacked' didn't help [report]

Jon Gruden's second stint as head coach of the Oakland Raiders is off to a rough start, and it sounds like he has quickly lost the trust of many of his players.

"You have to wonder if we haven't been playing for draft picks all along", the player told Tafur. Trading Carr might be the straw that breaks that camel's back, as the remaining Raiders players fully realize they aren't being given a legit chance to win games. "I am a leader on this team and I am under contract next year, but more importantly I care about all my teammates". I believe their first concern will be to try and get something done with Lawrence and Byron Jones this coming offseason. "Derek is always going to come in here and tell us when he needs to play better, that's something that he does on a daily basis".

"Nobody was happy when we traded Khalil". Our field position was awful all day, so I think all of us need to look at each other. And nobody is happy that we traded Amari.

One player who spoke to The Athletic without anonymity was tight end Lee Smith, who confirmed he has worries about the locker room and voiced frustration with the idea of a rebuild. How could you be? The Athletic's John Middlekauff was reporting that Gruden was listening to offers on Mack long before anyone was interested in listening and he seems to be saying the same is happening with Carr. And having five first-rounders in the next two years is pretty good.

Reports indicate that Gruden is going to meet with the team ahead of Wednesday's practice to talk things out. Some, however, are not deserved-like the reports of a fractured locker room and the questioning of Derek Carr's leadership because the quarterback may or may not have cried after an injury against the Seahawks.
