Cleveland Browns fire Hue Jackson

Lots of drama and little progress This is a toxic combination for the Browns

The franchise fired Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley in a decision announced early Monday afternoon.

There were wild celebrations in Cleveland last month after their team beat the New York Jets for their first win since Christmas Eve 2016.

The Browns have lost three straight games after a promising start this season.

He shouldn't have been named head coach, and Haslsm doubled down on that mistake when he insisted incoming General Manager John Dorsey retain Jackson for this season rather than hire his own coach.

Interim coach Gregg Williams could make it seven if he's not the permanent replacement for Jackson.

Now, the Browns don't have to worry about either of them being the problem, considering both Jackson and Haley are now officially out of Berea. He has 20 years of National Football League coaching experience but was suspended for the entire 2012 season for his role in the New Orleans Saints bounty issue.

Whoever takes the Browns job must believe in Mayfield, whom Dorsey drafted first overall six months ago.

Jackson was hired in 2016 by the Haslams, whose six years ownership have been marked by almost constant change and bad football.

"I do not know", Haslam said.

The Browns will face the Chiefs in Week 9 action Sunday.

Dorsey doesn't have reason to worry about that scenario anymore, however, as Haley also was sacked Monday afternoon. But today it's this big thing because sure, everyone is going to look and say what's going on.
