Quinnipiac poll releases new numbers on Cruz-O’Rourke race

TX-Sen Ted Cruz crowd roars with laughter to senator’s response when someone shouted ‘lock him

A new Quinnipiac University poll shows incumbent Republican Sen. Ted Cruz (TX-R) prior to a game against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night.

"With a week to go, Texas U.S. Sen".

A September Ipsos poll showed O'Rourke beating Cruz by 2 percentage points among likely voters. The Democratic candidate putting up the strongest challenge for a blue Texas Senate seat that the state has seen in some while had Scott with him at a recent rally in Houston.

At the same time, Cruz draws support from white voters, 67-30 percent, as O'Rourke claims support from black voters, 86-12 percent, and Hispanic voters, 60-36 percent, the poll shows.

Using a bullhorn, the Astroworld rapper encouraged all of his young fans to vote on November 6.

O'Rourke led 56 percent to 40 percent among independent voters and 96 percent to 2 percent among Democrats.

Just 3 percent of likely voters contacted by the pollsters remain undecided, reflecting the deeply polarized nature of the electorate and the fact that Cruz is just as appealing to conservatives as O'Rourke is to progressives.

Per Quinnipiac, Cruz is holding on to his lead due to his gender advantage: he is winning handily with men, while O'Rourke only has a modest edge with women. Quinnipiac reported a 3.5 point margin of error.

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence are among those who have traveled to Texas to campaign on Cruz's behalf.
