In total, Svitolina played in 14 WTA tournament finals and lost only two of them. It's been a very long season and this tournament took a lot out of me but, at the same time, I'm very happy and I have great memories of Singapore.

Stephens looked on her way to becoming the eighth USA player to win the WTA Finals as she grabbed a one-set advantage on the strength of an early service break, reports Efe news.

"If that propels me or her to do really well in Australia or in the hard court season coming up, again, it is what it is, but I think that, yeah, we both are very deserving, and I thought it was a great final".

"It's wonderful. I'm very, very pleased with the performance this week".

Ukrainian Svitolina had arrived in Singapore woefully out of form, but the baseliner gathered momentum as the tournament progressed, winning all three pool matches and semifinal before subduing a fast-starting Stephens.

The Ukrainian raced to a 3-0 lead in the third set, but Stephens managed to secure a break in the fifth game.

Stephens' blistering forehand dictated proceedings, as she ran away with the first set.

The 24-year-old's momentum continued as she produced an astounding run down victor to break Stephens in the second game.
