Packers Trade Ty Montgomery to Ravens

Rams' Ndamukong Suh will renew acquaintance with Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers

It's the second move the Packers have made on the trade deadline, moving Ty Montgomery to the Baltimore Ravens as well.

Ty Montgomery, formerly of the Green Bay Packers, was acquired by the Ravens for a 2020 seventh round draft choice.

Montgomery was a 2015 third-round pick out of Stanford, where he was a wide receiver.

Even with the multiple choices, one thing is clear; whoever Green Bay puts at the safety position won't be as good as Clinton-Dix was.

That said, Collins has been missing holes and his regression has been unexpected in 2018.

This season, Clinton-Dix has three interceptions and a forced fumble in seven games. When he decided not to kneel in the end zone and instead coughed the ball up late in the fourth quarter against the Los Angeles Rams - ending any chance at yet another Rodgers two-minute comeback - the poor decision spread like wildfire.

Montgomery said on the radio Monday that he and his family received death threats following the loss.

Montgomery is only 25 years old and has shown that he's versatile, especially as a kick returner, so the Ravens are getting a very talented player. He had indicated earlier this year he didn't anticipate returning to the team when he hits free agency in March 2019. Williams played some snaps at safety last week against the Rams and during his time with Mike Pettine when both were with the Cleveland Browns.

His role in the offense will depend on whether offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg can utilize him well all over the field. He rushed 20 times for 77 yards and two touchdowns during the preseason but does not have a regular-season carry in his National Football League career. He did take part in practice Wednesday after three hours of sleep. I give this trade an above average grade as it is not the splash move the Ravens needed but in their circumstance, was a good move nonetheless.

Whether Montgomery can help this Sunday against the Steelers, Harbaugh said he'll try to determine that in practice this week.
