Eyeless Congressional Candidate Isn’t Thrilled With Pete Davidson’s SNL Jokes

NRCC demands apology from Pete Davidson, NBC after ‘SNL’ skit

Kenan Thompson spoke out about his "Saturday Night Live" co-star Pete Davidson's joke about Dan Crenshaw, a Texas Republican running for Congress who lost an eye while serving in the USA military, saying the comedian "definitely missed the mark".

However, Crenshaw went on to offer some comedy advice to Davidson.

"This guy is kinda cool, Dan Crenshaw", Davidson said on this weekend's show, next to a photo of Crenshaw.

"You know my father's a veteran, Vietnam, and I personally would never necessarily go there, but it's tough when you're fishing for jokes", Thompson told NBC News anchor Craig Melvin.

The joke at his expense came from cast member Pete Davidson, who was doing a bit during the Weekend Update segment in which he gave his first impressions of congressional candidates across the country.

Crenshaw was badly wounded during his third tour in Afghanistan as a Navy SEAL.

Speaking to Alisyn Camerota of CNN on Monday, Crenshaw said that "Saturday Night Live" did more than just insult him but other veterans as well. And here's the real atrocity in all this: "it wasn't even amusing".

Davidson received a much harsher response from the National Republican Congressional Committee, which demanded an apology.

Spoiler alert: none of Davidson's descriptions were particularly flattering, such as his declaration that Florida Republican Senate candidate Rick Scott "looks like someone tried to whittle Bruce Willis out of a penis".

But he noted Davidson's "mean-spirited" joke wasn't even amusing, adding Davidson and SNL executives should recognize that "veterans across the country probably don't feel as though their wounds [that] they received in battle should be the subject of a bad punch line".

He went on to say that Davidson and NBC are likely "feeling the heat from around the country right now" and that he doesn't need to demand an apology from them. They can do whatever they want, you know.

Davidson referenced his split with Grande on "SNL", calling her a "wonderful, strong person".
