The Marietta Register Cobb County · Est. 2009
Thursday, March 13, 2025 Vol. XVI · No. 072 · Cobb County Edition

A newsroom with a street address

The Marietta Register was founded in 2009 by journalists who noticed that as metro Atlanta's daily newspapers shrank, the city of Marietta was disappearing from coverage between scandals. We started as a weekly email written at a kitchen table on the west side and grew into a full digital newsroom. What has never changed is the premise: the people reporting on Marietta should live in Marietta, shop at the same grocery stores, and sit in the same traffic.

What we cover

Our beat map is the city itself:

  • City hall and Cobb County government — budgets, zoning votes, and the council meetings where decisions actually happen, covered even when nothing explodes.
  • Schools: board decisions, boundary changes, and the classroom stories that matter to families.
  • Public safety with context — not just the incident, but the trend and the response.
  • Small business and neighborhoods: the openings, closings, and development fights that change how the city feels.

How we work

We publish long, documented stories rather than aggregation — our average article runs several times the length of typical local coverage because context is the product. Every story lists its sources where possible; corrections run at the top of the corrected piece, visibly. We are funded by reader memberships and local advertising, disclosed on every sponsored item, and no advertiser has ever killed a story — our masthead says so and our track record backs it up.

Local journalism is how a city hears itself think. If you live in Marietta or care about Cobb County, the Marietta Register exists to keep you informed — seriously, locally, and every week of the year.
